John Calvin on Predestination and our Lack of Free Will Pt. 1 Video
by Calvin McMurray through professor Rev. Dr. James Kenneth Powell II, opensourcebuddhism.org This well-made work examines the arguments John Calvin, Protestant superhero makes regarding free will or predestination, his form of "fatalism". How can an omniscient deity not know everything you will do? Can He make a wall higher than He can climb?
Calvinists and ...
Calvinists and Arminianists are very confused? people....:¬)
Luther returned to ...
Luther returned to the Roman Catholic Church rather than sanction the violence being committed in his name by Lutherans. Modern lutherans today are not Lutherans, therefore, but protestants descending from the genocidal early Lutheran movement. They may of course be innocent of the crimes of their founders, but they are not Lutherans. They should call themselves, in good humor, Accessorists or Pseudolutherans since? they are accessories after the fact of the genocide by their numerous founders.
This issue has been ...
This issue has been resolved in quantum mechanics: each particle has a different history from each other, each existing as its own separate universe of conscious memory. Such a particle, with a memory of its choices, called the universe, is called a monad? or individual. Each of us created his own universe as the result of his choices. That means you are as a God, just like scripture says. Theism is a scam because it can't teach this without contradicting theism's lie about who is as a God.

John Calvin is correct!God chooses who goes to heaven and hell.Even though we have free will.But I strongly believe in this doctrine.Why did the saints then write that some people will go to hell and that the ones left on earth will be apart of the Devil's? army.It's obvious that Pre Destination is 110% correct.
@frangipani1974 ...
@frangipani1974 Calvin was a devottee of the Stoic Seneca. He believes in? determinism, not predestination. He's heretical on this point. Although, I admit his institutes are pretty lucid writing. But, he was nuts on a lot of things. I like that bird talking guy better.
@revulayshun okay ...
@revulayshun okay but could you answer my question ? Could it be God's secret will that all men should be saved or could it be that it is his revealed will that all men be saved ? If God has two wills, why is double-mindedness condemned in the Scriptures? If God has two wills, why does the Bible say, "He is of one mind?" If God has a secret will, how did you gain a knowledge of it? PM me
Can that be? a secret which has been revealed?
Job 23:13 + 1Tim 2:3-4 = Philippians 2:11?

@Dwrancho144 As a ...
@Dwrancho144 As a Calvinist, I recognize that those who have been predestined until eternal life will, without fail, be converted to Christ. It isn't up to me, it's up to God. That's why I can sleep at night. I also recognize that God has chosen the means by which He will draw His? people to Himself: through the proclaimation of the gospel. That is why I evangelize. John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
@opensourcebuddhism ...
@opensourcebuddhism I figured out that I if I was going to believe in what the Scriptures teach, I better accept what it does and doesn't say. That's why I'd rather? challenge people to look actually study. If they still disagree, then...what can I really do about that. But it's odd to have a foundation for one's faith that lacks obvious examples in the Scriptures. Like I said, I used to believe in the non-existent myself at one time. I felt like a total jackass later.
@opensourcebuddhism ...
@opensourcebuddhism It is strange to me that so many people espouse what they believe is "biblical" without really checking? their own usage of certain words or verbiage. If one doesn't believe in the Bible, they obviously can believe what they want but when it comes to what the Bible actually says, that becomes a whole different situation. I used to argue for the concept of "free-will" and against the idea of predestination for years. But then...I picked up a concordance and...
@MrNickKane Without ...
@MrNickKane Without checking your fact Nick, I suspect you are right. The New Testament likely does not emphasize choice? and in the Gospel of John it does look like a predestination scheme...sons of darkness seem so by nature, not by choice....insightful, pro-Calvin thoughts you share.....
Want to find out ...
Want to find out even more quickly. Go to Biblegateway and do an advanced word search and notice how Christ and the Apostles used the words choice, choose, chosen, choosing, decide or decision. More importantly, notice that when they do use the words, they never use them in the same manner a majority of evangelicals use them! Now, ask yourself...why? When your done, either yield to God's Sovereignty or the arrogant whiners who want you to believe? in what isn't there. It's simple.
the Bible CLEARLY ...
the Bible CLEARLY teaches that men have to make a decision but they FAIL to show you the Scriptures? that clearly state this. Luther and Calvin noticed the OBVIOUS omission and were humbled by it. Think about it, if CHOICE were so integral...so important...you would think that at least ONE of the Apostles would have dedicated their writings to it. That Christ would have repeatedly emphasized it but...they didn't. Stop listening to others and read the Bible. Trust it.
CHOICE...a word ...
CHOICE...a word seldom used in the New Testament in reference to man choosing. A word that is used emphasizing God's decision and not man's. Seriously, take out a concordance and study all the times the word choice, choose, chosen and choosing are used. Look up the words decide and decision and see how often they are used in reference to men exercising either. You'll notice that these words, seldom..if ever are? used in conjunction with salvation, however, millions of people are taught that...
"That led up to the ...
"That led up to the creation of predestination"??? The doctrine of the predestinantion of the election is found in the Bible, men such as Calvin and Luther merely taught it and elaborated on it.?

So ...
@tuanchijui
So while the idea of ABSOLUTE free will is a lie and illusion, the idea of free will in the broader sense does exist but only to a certain extent.
It is ultimately the sovereign God who controls? the reins and direction of mens hearts, hardening or softening them as he will.
@tuanchijui
...
@tuanchijui
Thats correct, it is basic Calvinistic and Protestant, thought [also taught by Luther] that man DOES have free will to SIN [or rather to live life according to his sin nature], but because of this sin nature (acquired through the fall of Adam) he does not have free will to accept the Gospel unless compelled to do so by God. It is simply the idea that saving faith? is of God working it upon the believer so that it is not of his own, so that no man can boast.

You also need to keep in mind that inspite of it's faults, Geneva at that time was still a refuge for those Bible believing Christians persecuted by the papal church, and Geneva was not nearly as tyrannical as the papal inquisition which was terrifying the world at that time.
But honestly, which is worse, the strict desire of Puritan calvinists to glorify God and his Word in their lives and laws or the degrading hedonistic debauchery of modern? society??
@frangipani1974
...
@frangipani1974
Geneva at that time was a theocrasy. Calvin was not a great political thinker but a great THEOLOGIAN, his theology is brilliant and Bible? based but most modern people (even calvinists) reject theocrasy and do not look to Calvin as a political figure but as a teacher of the Bible. But in his defense, out of Calvinism eventually came the type of small-government political liberty as espoused by the framers of the Bill of Rights.

The first few ...
The first few seconds confused me. John Calvin did not teach that man has no free at all but that man is a slave to sin and do not have? the desire to choose God. God must make an internal call to give man the desire to choose God. We have free will in the sense that I chose what shirt to wear today.

it was October 31st, 1517? and not 1546 when Luther posted the "95 Thesis". Calvin wrote his "Institutes of the Christian Religion" around 1530's
Calvin actually ...
Calvin actually took his ideas of predestination straight? from Luther. He didn't put as much emphasis on it as his followers would later.
Calvin was also a very indecisive man, he couldn't decide between the "abyss" of freedom and the "labyrinth" of control. The German lords would, of course, prefer the latter, so that caught on more.
